Grand Opening of Dharmadutha College’s Long-Awaited Playground
After 134 years of waiting, Dharmadutha College proudly celebrated the grand opening of its brand-new playground on 7th January 2025. The event marked a historic milestone for the school, which has produced numerous national and international-level sportsmen despite lacking proper sports facilities.
The state-of-the-art playground was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Old Boys’ Association, whose unwavering support turned a long-cherished dream into reality. The leadership of the school’s principal, Mr.H.M. Senarath Bandara, played a pivotal role in coordinating the project and ensuring its success through his straightforward decisions.
Distinguished guests, including representatives from the Old Boys’ Association, Old Duthians’ Sports Club, parents, and well-wishers, were present to witness this momentous occasion. A special parade featuring all the athletes, school sports club members, scouts, prefects and current students added a festive touch to the event.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, an inaugural cricket match was held between the Dharmadutha academic/non-academic staff and the current school students, symbolizing the bond of Dutha family. Cheers and applause echoed as students, staff and alumni celebrated the beginning of a new chapter for sports at Dharmadutha College.
As the school looks forward to producing even more exceptional athletes, the playground stands as a beacon of hope, dedication, and teamwork.
