Cadet Unit

The cadet core of Dharmaduta college was founded by Mr. Wickrama Jayalath during the period of the former principal Mr.D.L.Jayasinghe in 1964. Mr. Martin Fernando his assistant took over as his successor in 1968.

By the competition held in Kandy in 1974 Dutians won with flying colours. There were 48 participants. Giants like Dharmaraja and Kingswood were among them. Leaving many behind her Dharmaduta came first in many events. She got first place by gaining 104.2 marks for the marchpast. Gained first place for Physical training by earning 108 marks. The selected first decorated home was of Dharmaduta. Another outstanding event was that Mr.Martin Fernando was selected as the best commander. All in all, Dutians were selected as the best group by gaining 400.5 marks. The second group, the Dharmaraja got only 392.8 marks. In the newspaper KANDY EXPRESS, this was reported as “Dharmaduta college of Badulla has been selected as the first platoon and second battalion of cadet core of the contest held in Kandy recently.”

In this outstanding victory, our thanks go to the late Mr. Wickrama Jayalath, the former principal, his successor in sports Mr. Martin Fernando. Also, we are grateful to the following gentlemen who extended their help to a greater extent. Lieutenant colonel K.M.Somapala, Lieutenant I.P.K.Mahanama, sports officer Mr.I.P.K.Prematunga Lieutenant N.C.M.Seneviratna, Lieutenant V.G.Priyantha Sirikumara, Lieutenant R.M.G.Rajapaksha, second lieutenant Sudheera Jayalal Kumburegedara, Brigadier Rohitha Neel Akmeemana, and Major General D.Rathnasabhapathi, are the best Army officers we Have produced in the cadet section of our school.
